ABEOKUTA – Ahead of the 2019 general elections, the Ogun State chapter of Allied People’s Movement (APM) on Monday unveiled its campaign committee led by former Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Alh. Tunji Ishola Sarafa as Director – General.
The emergence of APM in the firmament of Ogun politics at the eleventh hour was a response by the loyalists of Governor Amosun who alleged being cheated and shut out by the All Progressives Congress (APC), after they had participated in the party primaries, won but denied tickets, including Amosun’s anointed and consensus governorship candidate, Hon.Abdulkabir Adekunle Akinlade.
But the party’s governorship candidate, Adekunle Akinlade while addressing a world press conference at the new party secretariat in Abeokuta expressed confidence that he would form the next government of Ogun State in 2019 to continue the rebuilding mission of Amosun.
Akinlade maintained that, his decision to join APM was premeditated by the marginalization of Ogun West Senatorial District from producing the next governor.
He alleged that, the imposition of candidates and open hostility by the national leadership of APC forced them out to join APM.
He said, “the imposition of candidates and the open hostility to the duly elected party leadership in the state have therefore compelled us to look for an alternative platform in search of justice, internal democracy and the sustenance of the mission to rebuild Ogun State.
“The mission to rebuild must be sustained and fast tracked to a logical conclusion in order to ensure peaceful succession, orderliness and sustainable development of our state.
“The larger interest of Ogun State must therefore not be sacrificed at the alter of self-seeking minority. Central to the rebuilding mission is the struggle against the marginalization of the people of Ogun West senatorial district.”
In attendance at the unveiling of the Campaign committee at the new Secretariat on Abiola Way, are governor Ibikunle Amosun’s elder brother, Alh. Abideoye Amosun, Commissioner for Education, Modupe Mujota, Amosun’s aide, Bola Adeyemi, Soji Ogunjobi, Hon.Yinka Mafe, Commissioner for Information, Dayo Adeneye, and a host of other party chieftains.
Other members of the Campaign committee are; Dr. Babatunde Ipaye (Deputy Director-General), Hon. Toyin Ayebusiwa (Ogun East Senatorial Director), Chief Wole Adesiji (Ogun Central) and Chief Jide Ojuko as Ogun west Director.
