… As APM flags off campaign, adopts Buhari, Amosun
ABEOKUTA – Hon. Adekunle Abdulkabir Akinlade, the governorship candidate of Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Ogun State, yesterday said the electorate would resist extension of political hegemony to the state by “external forces” by voting the candidate of their choice in 2019 general elections.
Akinlade stated this on Thursday at the APM official campaign flag-off and adoption of President Muhammadu Buhari as the presidential candidate held at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Kuto, in Abeokuta.
Apart from Buhari, the opposition party equally adopted Governor Ibikunle Amosun and Lekan Mustapha, both APC flagbearers, as the senatorial candidates for Ogun Central and Ogun East.
The Governorship Candidate of Allied Peoples Movement, APM who arrived the venue alongside his running mate, Adebajo in a motorcade and carrying Cassava, a symbol of the party called the bluff of his former party, All Progressives Congress, (APC), which he alleged denied him and others, the ticket to run under its banner.
Akinlade, who is the anointed candidate of governor Amosun, described the crisis which instigated his defection alongside others from the ruling party to APM, as “tortuous and challenging.”
“For about two months, you are all witnesses that we had to fight for the freedom of our people to freely chose the government of their choice.
“We had to contend with some forces that are determined to reverse the match to prosperity in Ogun State”, Akinlade said.
He commended Amosun, whom he described as a mentor and good leader, hence, his(Akinlade) resolved to continue his legacy, if elected the next governor of the state, adding that, he would further transform the state where Amosun stopped.
He promised to sustain Amosun’s “Mission To Rebuild” the state with improvement on road infrastructure, health care delivery, education, rural development, agriculture and youth empowerment.
The gubernatorial candidate boasted that with peoples support, “APM’s victory is assured in 2019 election.”
The national chairman of the APM, Mamman Yusuf Dantalle while adopting Buhari presented the party’s flag to Akinlade saying the flag would be given to Governor Amosun of the APC for onward transmission to President Muhammadu Buhari as a symbol of the party support and adopting him as its candidate at the poll.
He congratulated the members, bulk of them from the All Progressives Congress, (APC), adding that their decision to defect to the Allied Peoples Movement, (APM), was a wise decision which came at the appropriate time.
The party boss, called on members to work as family members in ensuring success at the poll, and also reminded them to campaign for President Muhammed Buhari towards victory for him in regards his second term ambition.
In his welcome address, the Director General of campaign council, Sarafa Tunji Ishola described the massive crowd at the rally as acceptance of the new party.
Ishola, who was the Minister of Mines and Steel, also expressed confidence that APM governorship candidate, Adekunle would win the next gubernatorial poll in the state.
He encouraged members to put behind them, the incident of being cheated by some ‘cabals’ in the All Progressives Congress, APC, to secure tickets for the candidates, rather they should forge ahead towards resounding victory for APM and its candidates.
“This turnout of today (Thursday) signifies where votes will go to in 2019. The Ogun State People have spoken today and they have spoken well,” the Campaign DG said.
