It has been reported by the Police spokesperson in Ebonyi state that eight persons were killed in a resumed boundary dispute between two communities in the State including a three-month old baby.

The police spokesperson in the state, Loveth Odah, on Monday, said six of the victims, five of whom were from the same family, were burnt to death in a bus, while others were shot dead.

The attacks, according to the police, occurred along the Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu Alike Road, near the border between Ndiagu Alike and Enyibichiri communities in Ikwo and Abakaliki local government areas of the state.

According to Odah, one of the victims was the wife of a police officer serving in the state but now on temporary transfer  to Borno State.

Odah stated, “It is a long-standing dispute between Ndiagu Alike community in Ikwo Local Government Area and Enyibichiri community in Abakaliki Local Government Area that caused the crisis on Saturday.

“The victims were coming from Abakaliki, where they attended the matriculation of their son. Five of them were from the same family, including a baby; one was a neighbour who joined them.”

The Head of Emergency Unit, Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki, where the victims were taken to, Mr Jude Arium, told our correspondent that over 10 persons sustained severe injuries.

“Apart from those who were brought here dead and were deposited in the morgue, those who sustained various forms injuries are being treated,” he said.
