The Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, His Majesty Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, was honored by the Abeokuta Club-1972 yesterday (28-03-2018) at the Clubhouse for his being recently awarded Doctor of Letters by the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye.
The President of the Club, Prince Adeniyi Lasaki, described the Alake as a most patriotic member and Grandpatron of the Cultural Club.
Prince Adeniyi Lasaki said that Oba Adedotun Gbadebo had continuously been making the Club proud with his consummate and committed leadership of Egbaland and elsewhere.
The Club President, while enumerating the Alake’s positive activities in promoting unity, peace and progress of the Egba Nation, disclosed that His Majesty’s second Award of Doctor of Letters, D.Litt, Honoris Causa, had not come as a surprise.
He said it was rather another confirmation of his impeccable integrity and dexterity as a National Community Leader ever to lead Egbaland and indeed, Nigeria.
Prince Lasaki concluded that the Club was honoring the Alake as a mark of appreciation not only for the Olabisi Onabanjo University, but also as an identification with the Paramount Egba Monarch.
The Chairman, Board of Trustees and a former President of the Club, Chief Tunde Abudu commended the Alake for His Majesty’s sustainability of what he described as Alake’s indisputable integrity, his ever seeking greater growth and development of Egbaland and relentless promoting unity and cohesion of Egbaland.
The Agoro of Egbaland, Chief Doja Adewolu disclosed that Oba Gbadebo had never been found wanting when it was a question of trust, respect for human dignity, integrity and accessibility and urged the him to sustain such.
In his response, the Alake, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo profusely thanked the Club for the honor, urging other patriotic Americans Egba indigenes at home and in diaspora to be members of the Club in order to contribute to the rapid growth and development of Egbaland.
Oba Adedotun Gbadebo promised to sustain his strives to make Egbaland and the people happier and prouder of the land.
Many past and current leaders of the Club as well as dignitaries were also present at the occasion.
They included His Excellency Judge Bolasodun Ajibola, Retired Justice Gabsiu Demola Bakare, the Ogun State SSG Barrister Taiwo Adeoluwa, Chief Fatai Lawal, Professor Afolabi Soyode, Prince Niyi Adegbenro, Vice President Tokunbo Odebunmi, Balogun Egba Sikirullah Atobatele, Aare Egba Ganiyu Babayeju, Seriki Egba Tosin Fadare and Aare Baaroyin Olootu Layi Labode.
Among Federal Government Service Chiefs present were the Director of NDLEA Bala Fagge, State Commander of the Road Sector Clement Oladele and Deputy Director of the SSS Adeyemi Awonuga.
