The new General Commander, 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Godwin Umelo, has described Abeokuta and Ogun State, as a most conducive and friendly environment for the Nigerian Military to grow and develop.
General Godwin Umelo, who was in Ogun State on tour of military formations, made the observation, while paying a courtesy visit to the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, a retired military leader himself, at his Ake Palace on Monday, August 25, 2020.
Major General Godwin Umelo, who had served in various capacities before becoming the GOC, 81 Division, on the 22nd of July, 2020, appreciated and extolled the Alake for the fatherly role he had been playing in the security and peace of Ogun State.
Major General Umelo commended the administrative qualities of the Egba Paramount Monarch for making the stay of the military in Ogun State a peaceful one.
General Umelo also said that Egbaland was lucky to have a retired military officer as a Traditional Ruler because of his background of self discipline and human feeling.
He further stated that he was honoured to pay the Alake a courtesy visit, adding that as he had seen the Alake, he was confident that the good tidings of retirement awaits him.
In his response, Oba Gbadebo expressed with great satisfaction that the Nigerian military had been internationally recognised as one of the best in the world.
The Egba Paramount Monarch commended them for their hard work and diligence, adding that they have excellently carried out their duties in ensuring the safety of Nigerians.
According to His Majesty, the military profession was the noblest profession that lays emphasis on leadership, selflessness, and peace.
Oba Gbadebo also reiterated that he was proud of the Nigerian Military for the great honour they had earned all over the world.
The Alake further advised them to sustain their hard work and selfless service to the people and to maintain good relationships with them.
He added that they should also stay in their constitutional role and allow patience to be their watchword.
Oba Gbadebo also revealed that the best military personnels Nigeria has had in the past 80 years, have all served in Abeokuta.
He further wished them success in their career and as they operate in the city of Abeokuta, which is the cradle of Western Civilisation.

Egba High Chiefs present during the occasion included the Bada AsojuOba, Chief Wole Odekunle, the Akingboye of Egbaland, Chief Sakiru Akingbade, and the Aare Baaroyin, Chief Layi Labode.
