The Ogun State Commissioner for Transportation, Engr Gbenga Dairo, has assured that the transportation system of Abeokuta and Ogun State at large would soon experience great reformation as part of the policies of the new Future Cities of the world, of which the City has been opportune to be a part of.
The Commissioner made the remarks at the Ogun State Ministry of Transportation and Future Cities of Nigeria’s Stakeholders Workshop on the Development of Transport Policy and Capacity Building in Abeokuta, on Wednesday, 26th of August, 2020, at the Park Inn Conference Hall, Kuto, Abeokuta.
Engr Gbenga Dairo expressed with delight that Abeokuta and Lagos had been chosen as part of the 19 cities, across 10 Countries of the world, to experience a new era of industrial development.
According to him, the implementation of the policies that would guide the reformation of the transportation systems and the policy itself would be an all inclusive one that would put into consideration, the opinions and suggestions of the commuters and residents of Ogun State.
He added that the major aim of the workshop was to inform all stakeholders of the various areas of the Transport Sector, of the policies carried out from an extensive research work to enhance the development of the area.
In his presentation, Dr George Banjo, the leader of the Abeokuta Transport Intervention Team, revealed that the main objectives of the Project had been emphasised generally on safety, gender sensitivity, and development in the transport sector of Ogun State.
He further elaborated that the policy of this New Future Cities, that had resulted from a detailed observation and analysis of the populace and way of life of the Abeokuta residents, would checkmate the existing Transport Agencies and regulate transport systems in the interest of users and commuters.
Dr George added that the new implementation would cut across all modes of transportation and ensure easier, affordable, and accessible transport system.
He said that the team is to complete its planning and assessments in October, 2020.
The Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Michael Adedotun Gbadebo, CFR, Okukenu IV, was present at the occasion in the person of the Aare Baaroyin, Chief Layi Labode, the OluIbara of Ibara, Oba Jacob Omolade was also present at the occasion.
Other Dignitaries present included the Commissioner Ministry of Industry and Trade, Mrs Kikelomo Longe; Hon. Lawal, Chairman Odeda LG; Hon. Ayo Somide, Chairman Abeokuta South LG; Town Planner AbdulRaheed, former Rector of Mapoly; Engr Kolawole Onalode, representative of Nigerian Society of Engineering (NSE); Hon. Abayomi Fasua, Vice Chairman Committee on Transport and others.
