Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has restated his administration’s commitment towards continued collaboration with all Security agencies in the State, particularly Officers and Men of the Nigeria Immigration Service, with a charge on them to reciprocate government’s gesture by professionally securing lives and property of the people.
Gov. Abiodun, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, said this while declaring open a 2-Day retreat for Officers of the NIS in Abeokuta, said his administration was strengthening the security apparatus through provision of logistic supports and other wherewithal to assist the agency realise his target goals of ease of movement of the people within and outside the country.
“Our administration is determined to support all our security partners in achieving their constitutional duty of securing lives and property within available resources. Just as I commend all security agencies and their officers for their commitment and dedication.
“You must realise also that, just as we are strengthening the security apparatus, these unscrupulous people are also re-strategising. The war is yet to be won. I urge you all not to drop the ball”, he stated.
The Governor said the retreat would provide opportunity for cross-fertilization of ideas on how best to tackle the challenges facing NIS in Ogun State, noting that at the end, the State Command was expected to come up with improved and more pragmatic recommendations, policies, approaches and practices that would further entrench the best global practices in immigration matters.
Earlier, Comptroller-General of the NIS, Mr. Mohammad Babandede, represented by the ACG Funke Adewuyi, commended the Prince Dapo Abiodun led-administration for the innumerable support rendered to the agency over time, especially for organizing the retreat, describing the State as an innovation hub of the country.
Babandede, who added that NIS was deeply passionate about strengthening the capacity of its officer in Ogun State Command, to offer superlative and speedy facilitation of all immigration services due to the strategic positioning of the State, which possess lots of land borders, riverine communities, Free Trade Zones amongst others.
Also speaking, State Comptroller of NIS, Mrs. Doris Braimah, noted that the capacity training was organised to adequately inform and educate officers on the various reforms and policies towards managing modern migration techniques, as the State was strategically located.
High point of the workshop was the presentation of a memorabilia to Governor Abiodun, for supporting the smooth organisation of the event in Abeokuta, the Ogun State Capital.
