Minister of Transportation, Dr Rotimi Amaechi has disclosed that, more than N3 billion was lost to banditry attack on the Abuja-Kaduna Rail Route.
Dr Amaechi made this known during his visit to the scene of the attack, on Tuesday 29th of March, 2022
In his address, Dr Amaechi noted that, the unfortunate event could have been avoided if a N3 billion digital security equipment had been acquired.
He said, they were aware that, there could be a problem, and to avoid this, a bid of 3 billion naira for acquiring Digital Security Equipment was placed but the bid was turned down.
Speaking further, he restated that, if the security equipment had been put in place, nobody would have dared to go near the train, noting that, failure to install the security equipments made them had loss of lives, injured and missing people.
Dr Amaechi therefore disclosed that, they had been given approval to get the equipment, noting that, the damages caused at the scene of the attack, would cost more than N3 billion to be fixed, due to the increase in dollar exchange rate, as at when it was proposed, dollar exchange rate was 400 and now it is at the rate of 500.
