ABEOKUTA – Member of the House of Representatives representing Remo federal constituency, Hon. Ladi Adebutu has berated Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun for the decay in the sports sector of the state.
Hon. Adebutu who spoke to sports writers at the final match of the 6th edition of Kensington Adebukonla Adebutu Foundation (KAAF) football championships held at Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu-Ode at the weekend, also lamented the bad condition of sports facilities across the state.
The lawmaker who bemoaned the dilapidated condition of the sporting facilities at the Ijebu Ode international stadium, alleged the state government of shattering the dream of many youths for placing less priority on sports.
According to him, sports is a necessity of life which promote culture of exercise and healthy competition to promote the skilled talents of the youths.
“11years ago we are in different times when this stadium hosted the U-17 World Cup. But we are in different times. The times have changed.
“The lack of maintenance on this stadium is about good governance, it is about priorities. Often times we see sports as luxury but it is a necessity of life. By promotion of sports, you provide that culture of exercise and competition and of course you it will bring good health.”
Ladi Adebutu a governorship candidate of the factional group of PDP in Ogun State therefore promised to revamp the sports sector, if elected as governor in 2019.
Meanwhile, in the final of the female U-17 match played Yewa team emerged the new female champions after beating Egba team 4-2 on penalty shoot out.
In the male final, Ijebu North East defeated Ijebu-Ode 2-1 to clinch the N1million Grand Prize.
