The leadership of the African Traditional Sports Festival has honoured the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun with a horse, as a demonstration of its determination to recognise leaders who have distinguished themselves by promoting peace and enhancing good governance.
Presenting the horse at the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the Festival Organising Committee Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Ndanusa, said they were attracted by the leadership style of the Governor, which had restored hope and engendered peaceful coexistence in the State, explaining that, ‘’horse is the highest honour one can give a man who has distinguished himself’’.
“We are here to demonstrate our determination, extend our genuine love and felicitate Governor Dapo Abiodun for the visible achievements of his administration, which has brought hope to the people of the State. The horse is a special gift, this honour is the highest one can give a man.
‘’It symbolises greatness, visible achievements, strength, love and unity. It is as a result of the Governor’s unparalleled feats and transparent transformation you made within first year in office, that informed our decision to choose you”, he said.
Alhaji Ndanusa added that the Festival was poised to celebrate credible leaders, who stand out in their quests to serve the people, seeks to celebrate Africa Traditional Sports heroes, promote African rich cultural heritage through sports, as well as national unity, among others.
He expressed hope that the honour would further motivate the Governor in the service of humanity, hinting that a proposal to host the maiden edition of the Festival in the State, of which climax would be at the Federal Capital Territory in October, to commemorate Nigeria’s 60th Independence Anniversary, had been submitted to the State government.
Receiving the horse on behalf of the State Governor, Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Adeola Odedina, appreciated the leadership of the group from Niger State, assuring that the proposal submitted to the Governor would be considered.
“I am particularly delighted to receive the gift on behalf of the Governor. We will not relent in promoting peaceful co-existence and your request to host the Festival and other things in the proposal will be communicated to the Governor and I can assure you of a quick response and we will also take good care of this beautiful creation”, he assured.
