The Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, has strongly appealed to Honorable Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amechi to make access roads to the five Railway Stations Ogun State motorable for the benefit of comutters to and from the station.
The Alake who was giving a goodwill message, made this call today during the launching of Ogun State Strategic Transport Master Plan and the Flag off Aircondition Busses, Bus Pilot Scheme at Oke Mosan today.
The Royal Father commended the Minister of Transport for his efforts at putting the Road Transport System on the high way to economic prosperity of Nigeria.
Oba Gbadebo also revealed that over the years Egbaland and Ogun State have benefited from the railway and road system of the federal and western state, and nonstagically recalling that when he was at Baptist boy’s high school in Abeokuta, he use to walk from his Ake home to Oke-Egunya every weekday which was about 14kilometeres to and fro.
He also lauded the the Honorable Minister for the enduring legacy he was laying for economic prosperity and legacy for the Modern Railway System, which had being exampled in Ogun state.
The Alake however, expressed concern that, access roads to the beautiful Railway Station were at worst stage, needing urgent attention.
The Egba Apex Monarch noted that the Wole Soyinka Railway Station, Landerin, Abeokuta, attracted hundreds of commuters daily to Ibadan and Lagos.
He however noted that these travellers daily experienced hardship in coming and leaving the stations.
He therefore called to the Honorable Minister to do all in his power by putting the access roads into motorable condition, thereby; completing his iconic and enduring Transformation of Transportation in Nigeria.
In his response, the Honorable Minister appreciated the Egba Grand Monarch, adding that, many Egba prominent leaders, traditional rulers and generality of the people of Ogun State had been his long standing friends.
He disclosed that some of them were closer allies, revealing that they included former President Obasanjo, Governor Olusegun Osoba, Otunba Gbenga Daniel and the incumbent Governor Dado Abiodun as well as Oba Adedotun Gbadebo the Alake.
The Minister, Honorable Amechi recalled that Ogun State had five Railway Stations , adding that, it was the duty of the government to create other means transportation from Railway Stations or Terminals to their final destinations
He further commended the Ogun State commisoner of transport for his commitment towards the completion of project. He recalled that he was the only commissioner that attended virtually all the meetings and contributed meaningful to the declarations.
Many dignitaries from all walks of life were present at the occasion.
They included, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Govenor Olusegun Osoba, Honorable Minister of Transport Rotimi Amechi, Professor Solanke Olabode from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Lagos State Commissioner of Transport Hon. Fedric Oladeinde and others.
The High Chiefs of Egbaland present at the occasion were: Balogun; Sikirulah Atobatele, Osi; Olabode Mustapha, Seriki; Tosin Fadare, Aare Ganiyu Babayeju, Aaro Yinka Kufile, Aare Baaroyin; Layi Labode, Baagunwa; Toye Okanlawon.
