The Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, CFR, Okukenu IV, had appealed to the Federal Government and the Governing Council of Federal College of Education, Osiele, to upgrade the Federal College of Education to a University of Education.
Oba Gbadebo made the appeal while receiving members of the FCE’s Governing Council led by Shehu Abdulrahman who paid him a courtesy visit at the Ake Palace, Abeokuta, on Wednesday, 22nd of September, 2021.
The Alake told the Governing Council that the tertiary Education institution had laid and surpassed its roles as a middle level manpower in teacher’s education for the past 45 years (1976 – 2021).
The Egba Apex Monarch pointed out that the FCE, Osiele, has acquired experienced materials and academic wherewithals to be one of the best Colleges of Education in Nigeria.
Oba Gbadebo noted with pleasure, the committed and dedicated roles being played by the Chairman of the Governing Council, Mr Shehu Abdulraman, and Council Members, as well as the staff and students of the institution.
He expressed the belief that this 7th Governing Council of the 45 year old Tertiary institution would sustain the excellent administration of the Tertiary institution.
Speaking also on the Staff and Management of the institution, Alake said that he was pleased and excited that the Almighty God heard his prayers and projections that Dr Soyele’s appointment as the Acting Provost would be confirmed by the Governing Council and the Federal Ministry of Education.
The Alake also disclosed that he had been following the progress of Dr R. A. Soyele since he was a student from Secondary, NCE, and Universities education and had strongly believed that he would reach the Apex of his career at the College.
The Alake therefore immensely thanked the Chairman of the Council, Dr R .A Soyele, members of the Council, and Staff of the institution, adding that there should be mutual understanding and cooperation.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the Governing Council, Alhaji Shehu Abdulramon told the Alake that the 7th Governing Council had lots of love for the Egba tradition and it’s custodians, especially the Alake of Egbaland.
He told the Alake that he and his members were always looking forward to visit the Alake and his people whenever they were in Abeokuta because Alake’s prayer efficacy and the love of the Egba people had always been the source of sound and useful celebrations during and after their meetings.
Speaking later at the occasion, the new Provost, Dr Soyele had thanked the Alake for his prayers as he had been given the substantive position.
He thanked the Almighty God, the Governing Council, and his Council members, as well as the Federal Ministry of Education.
Dr Soyele promised to reach the standard of activities within the College to the next level with the collaboration of the governing council of the institution.
