The Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo has urged politicians to fulfil electoral promises to the electorates after victory at the polls.
Oba Adedotun gave the charge as he received in audience the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairmanship candidate for Abeokuta South, Hon Omolaja Majekodunmi.
The Monarch advised Hon. Majekodunmi, the Asiwaju Akinrogun and his entire team to be faithful to their promises if they get elected.
Addressing the Chairmanship candidate, his deputy and councillors at the Ake Palace, Abeokuta, on Tuesday, Oba Gbadebo urged the candidate to assemble a team of forward-thinkers that are driven by the thirst for hard work and development of the council areas.
Alake prayed for the successes of the Chairman, Deputy and Counsellors at the polls and the divine direction to deliver on their promises to the electorates if voted into office.
Introducing the Chairmanship candidate, the party’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) in Abeokuta South, Comrade Farouk Niyi Akintunde noted that Hon Majekodunmi had always had the development at the grassroots at heart, even as an individual.
In his remarks, Chairmanship candidate, Omolaja Majekodunmi said he was at the Ake Palace for the royal blessing of his campaign team from the Egba Apex Monarch.
He also said he could not start the campaign without informing the Apex Monarch of Egbaland, adding that he had always held the traditional institution in high regard.
In an interview with Newsflagship, Hon Majekodunmi stated that he desired to take Abeokuta South Local Government to another level, in terms of infrastructure, agriculture, and education and many other aspects, if elected on the 24th of July, 2021.
He mentioned that the slogan of the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun is I-S-E-Y-A, which stands for Infrastructure, Security, Education, Youth Development, and Agriculture, saying his vision for Abeokuta South was in line with the mantra.
“There are lots of things that are not as they should in Abeokuta South Local Government, such as the internal roads, security, and others, and we intend to develop a lot of them.”
“We appreciate our Governor for building the main roads and giving them a wonderful outlook, and we pledge to see to the development of the linking roads amidst the communities if elected,” he said.
“We would also give the people of Abeokuta South the benefits of a good democracy.” He added.
Speaking on how to work together with traditional rulers, who are close to the grassroots to have all-inclusive and development-driven achievements, the Chairmanship candidate said he had always been close to the Alake, who is the Egba Apex Monarch, as well as the Akarigbo of Remoland, adding that he had worked with the Alake for so many years before joining the race.
“I would ensure to work with them to make sure everything goes well because they are also very close to the people and are the people’s confidant.”
