As part of activities marking the 14th Coronation Anniversary of the Alake, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, Okukenu IV, fourteen prominent Egba sons and daughters were honoured with various chieftaincy titles on Monday 18 of November, 2019 at the Ake Palace.   

Among the fourteen honorees were four members of the late Elebute of Egbaland, Chief Nelson Oyesiku’s Family.   They were, a renowned internationally acclaimed Neuro-Surgeon, Professor Nelson, the Baasegun Alabe and his wife Omolola, as Erelu Baasegun Alabe. Professor Oladamoye as Aare Aroko Oba and his wife, Omolara as Erelu Aare Aroko Oba Egba.     The Chairman, Coronation Anniversary Committee, Baagbimo Akanni Akinwale, disclosed that that would be the first time four members of same family would be honoured by any Alake and perhaps anywhere in Yorubaland.   The exercise also featured two other couples, Professor Delano Ajao Adelekan  as Baamowe and his wife, Aminat as Erelu Baamowe; while the Abeokuta Club President, Engineer Tokunbo Odebunmi bagged Asiwaju Onimo-Ero and his wife Jokotade was honoured as the Erelu Onimo-Ero of Egba.  Others also recognised and honoured were Chief Abayomi Rotimi as Baaye Egba;Chief Abayomi Sonekan as Odole Egba; Dr Zents Kunle Kunle Sowumi as Bada Tayese; Olamide;Chief Ifasiji Ifakotemi Olowo-Okere as Baajila Egba; Chief Victoria Halima Modueola as the Seriki Iyaloja Egba. 

Conferring Chieftaincy Titles on the new chiefs, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo admonished the new honorees to live up to me expectations of the Egba Nation by being patriotic to Egbaland and Nigeria at large, striving to be at the pinnacle of their chosen professions and sustaining the Egba  Proverbial Tradition of what the Egba Paramount Monarch described as “Omoluwabi” trustworthiness, accommodation and team playing.  Oba Adedotun Gbadebo disclosed that he was highly impressed by the human capital development of the Egba at home and abroad adding that those in diaspora should reenact and transplant their successes, businesses and wealth of experiences in Egbaland.   

The Alake also thanked the good people of Egbaland for their peace, cooperation and love for him and the the Egba Nation adding that they should continue to be business like and law abiding at home and abroad. 


The ceremony was witnessed by hundreds of family members, well wishers, Government Officials, Traditional Rulers, Egba High Chiefs and Groups.    The for Head of State and Chairman of National Interim Government, Chief Ernest Sonekan alongside a former Executive Governor of Ogun State, Akinrogun Olusegun Osoba, were present. Some Egba Obas at included Agura of Gbagura, Oba Saburee Bakre, Olu OkeOdo Oba Muftau Akindele, Olutori and Oba Fatai Akamo.   Egba High Chiefs were there to counted. They included Balogun Sikirullah Atobatele, Asiwaju Maxwell Ayinla, Aare Ganiyu Babayeju, AroEgba Yinka Kufiile, Baagbimo Akanni Akinwale, Asiwaju Baamofin Sunday Odunsi, Baaloro Niyi Adegbenro, Daranijo Lawrence Bankole, Gbegbaade Teju Bakre, Otun-Iyaloja Oloyede and Aare Baaroyin Layi Labode.
