Alake Endorses JAC Motors’ Sponsored International 10-Kilometer Marathon Race For Abeokuta


The Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, has described the 10-Kilometer Race coming up in November in Abeokuta, as one of the best tourism events and attractions to happen in Egbaland and Abeokuta, the Ogun State Capital.

Oba Adedotun Gbadebo made the remarks while receiving of the Organizers the first International road Race, led by a former Ogun State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Honourable Bukonla Olopade.

The Alake disclosed that he was happy and exited but not surprised, that the International Sporting exercise would be taking place in Abeokuta, because Abeokuta, indeed had proverbial friendly disposition, characteristic of the Egba indigenes and residents towards foreigners, as well as their accommodating attitude. 

The Alake explained further that there were many available tourism sites for participants to enjoy, including the 17-Story-Tall Olumo Rock, the International Adire and Kampala Markets at Itoku and Asero as well as the first Church and Bible at Ake.

The Egba Paramount Monarch commended the Managing Director of the Nilayo Sports Management Ltd, Honourable Olopade for his consistency and passion for the promotion of Sporting Activities locally and internationally as well as his commitment to the welfare of the youthful generation.

Oba Adedotun Gbadebo also commended the Sponsors of the  event, reassuring them that their investments in sporting activities was indeed a  wise one with short and long term benefits.

Earlier in his address, the Managing Director of the Abeokuta 10-Kilometre Race, Honourable Olopade,   disclosed that the exercise was the first of his kind in this part of Nigeria

Olopade explained that many long distance runners from all over the world would be coming to Abeokuta, not just to participate, to fight and win prizes and money.

The Sporting Icon also told the Alake that no fewer than 3000 Ogun State citizens had registered for the international 10 Km Race which he said would be flagged off by the Alake of Egbaland himself, on November 2, 2019, adding that the race would end at the Ake Palace Grounds.

Olopade told the Alake that, in addition to the Sporting exercise, the race would also bring economic activities, like any major sports in the world as hotels, gifts shops, tourists centers and other such venues, would be kept busy.

He also disclosed that his Organization had ensured that the 10-Kilometre Race would henceforth be an annual event, adding that some of the Sponsors of the 10 Km Race to include The JAC Motors, Access Bank, Rite Foods, Bet-9ja and IBD Hotels, Three Crown Milk.

He further disclosed that two other similar events would also be coming up next year. They are, Abuja International Marathon October 23rd 2020 and Asaba Half Marathon 2020.

The Management of Nilayo in the entourage included Seyi Jonathan, C.O.O; Femi Abegunde, Marketing Manager and Damilola Pedro, Brand Manager.

Other Sporting personalities and stakeholders from Security Services were also present
