Alake Lauds Ogun Former Sports Commissioner As Egbaland Hosts Africa’s First Internationally Recognised Local Race Competition


The Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, has extolled a former Ogun State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon Bukola Olopade, for his commitment in the world of Sports, which had made Nilayo Sports Limited to be recognised by the world Sporting body for international competition in Egbaland.

Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo made the remark while welcoming the Nilayo Sports Management Limited Chief Executive Officer, Hon Bukola Olorpade, his team, as well as his sponsors, at the Ake palace on Thursday, 11th of November, 2021.

Some of the sponsors were some who Rite foods, Emeka Kalu, Suzuki Adesoji Olaniyan.

The Alake recalled that when the event started 2 years ago, he had prayed that the event would join many of the firsts in Egbaland such as the first church, the first secondary school, the first Accountants, the first Lawyer and other firsts.

He added that God answered his prayers because Chief Bukola Olopade was a dedicated sports administrator.

The Egba Apex Monarch said he was not surprised that this annual event has achieved international dimensions because of Chief Olopade’s commitment to sporting and development of sporting tourism.

Speaking earlier, the Chief Executive Officer of Nilayo Sports Management Limited, Chief Bukola Olopade, told the Alake that the Almighty God had answered the prayers the Egba paramount had made 2 years ago that the annual event will become international.

He added that the Egba Apex Monarch’s prayers had been answered beyond expectations.

Chief Olopade said that the race could not hold last year due to COVID-19, but were determined to have a befitting race for Egbaland this year.

He further expressed how the team came up with a strategy that has resonated well in the whole of Nigeria. They created a race that will be for Nigerians that Nigerians will come to Abeokuta to run for their homeland.

“The race is dedicated to the Nigerian child.” He added

He also said that Jos is the farthest area for long distance in Nigeria and 5 buses from Jos are currently on their way to Egba.

“We are happy to be here because you are one king that is always happy to accept your children and We appreciate your dedication for coming early last year and invite you this year.” He added.

Egba High Chiefs present included Chief Bode Mustapha – Osi Egba, Chief Isreal Akanni Akinwale – Baagbimo of Egbaland, Oba Moruf Adebayo – the Onitafin Tafin, Chief Kehinde Adisa Sofenwa – Bantun of Egbaland and Chief Layi Labode – Aare Baaroyin of Egbaland.
