The Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, has enjoined the handicapped people not to lose hope of self actualization, even in the face of hostile and physical incumbrances.
Oba Adedotun Gbadebo gave the message of good hope and self survival while addressing members of the Ogun State Special Sports Association, who had come to pay him a courtesy visit at the Ake Palace on Thursday 26 June.
The Egba Monarch drew their attention to the fact, that no one was free from one problem or the other adding that theirs might just be special.
He however commended them for the resolute hope to move beyond their present conditions.
The Alake said that the idea that the Handicapped should beg for alms should be totally discouraged, adding that he was delighted to know that they wanted to work.
The Alake lamented that there was no RAMPS in the Ake Palace to facilitate movements of the Handicapped in and around the halls and premises including the Banquet, adding that Ramps and other facilities to aid the physically handicapped, would be installed any moment from now.
The Egba Monarch also directed that the physically handicapped Groups be allowed to take part in the next Lisabi Festival, coming up in the first quarter of next year and asked the Committee to start planning programme that would accommodate them.
On the request of the Physically Challenged Group for replacement of the movement aids like wheel chairs and crutches, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo immediately commenced an Endowment Foundation, for the Replacement of Movement Aids for the Physically Challenged with an initial payment of #100,000.00.
He directed Chief Oke, the Ogboye Egba Christians and Aare Baaroyin, Layi Labode, to work out the details of the Foundation and revert to him soonest.
Speaking earlier, the Secretary of the Association and spokesperson, Ms Toyin Ogunmefun, siad the Group comprised University and Polytechnic graduates as well as other skilled artisans who could not secure jobs because of their physical challenges.
Ms Ogunmefun pleaded with the Alake that since they didn’t want to be beggars, he should intercede with Governments, Private Sector and individuals to employ them while on the other hand, assist them to start their own businesses.
She pleaded for the assistance of the Alake to help in the replacement and refurbishment of their damaged and dysfunctional equipment to improve their living conditions.
A Patron of the Association and KGB of Egba Christians, Chief Oke, thanked the Alake for his proverbial generosity and compassion.
Chief Oke assured the Alake that his directives on Assistance to the Group and their inclusion in the Lisabi Festival Programme, would be fully implemented in collaboration with the Aare Baaroyin Layi Labode and Baapitan Bola Lawal.
Members of the Group’s Executive present included the Chairman, Mr. Kayode Sonde, PRO Rachael OkeOwo and Vice Chairman Omoyayi Abiodun.
Also present at the occasion were the Olu of Oke Odo Ilupeju Oba Muftau Akindele and the Aare Baaroyin, Layi Labode.
