As part of a week long Alake’s 15th Coronation Anniversary, the first batch of new Egba General Title Chiefs were installed by the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland yesterday at the Ake Palace.
They included the new Giwa Obinrin, Chief (Mrs) Modinat Similola Adegbite; Chiefs Lukman Atobatele and wife as Dagunja and Erelu Dagunja; Chiefs Ibraheem and Halima Bakare as Aremo Akinrogun and Asoju Iyalaje; and Chief Tajudeen Oladeinde as Amona Baaroyin.
Speaking at the Installation, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo told the new Chiefs to always be good ambassadors of the Egba Nation in character, business and their respectable communities.
Oba Adedotun Gbadebo reminded them that the new Chiefs had been carefully chosen and confirmed as proper and fit to hold Egba titles, adding that Egba Chieftaincy Titles were not for sale.
The Egba Apex Monarch admonished them to be conscious of the extra responsibilities they now carry as veritable Egba ambassadors wherever they find themselves.
The new Giwa Obinrin Egba is the wife of the late Seriki and BabaAdeen of Egbaland, Dr AbdulLateef Adegbite.
The new Dagunja of Egbaland Lukman Atobatele, a successful businessman, is a son of the Current Balogun of Egbaland, High Chief Sikiru Atobatele..
Meanwhile, about ten new Egba General Title Chiefs are to be installed today at the Ake Palace by 10am.
The exercise is in continuation of the celebration of the Alake’s 15th Coronation Anniversary.
Among those being honoured today are the Aare Iyalode, Chief Sikirat Ejide Adeyanju alias Shokopao; Chief Adebowale and Chief Chief (Mrs) Kunmbi Sodipo as Bobamuluro and Erelu Bobamuluro; Chief Olujide and Chief (Mrs) Atinuke Taiwo as Bagbaje and Erelu Bagbaje; and the Balogun of Ifote, Chief Samuel Okanlawon Oso and wife, as the Eruku and Erelu Eruku.
Others include Chief Taofikat Afolabi, Otun Iyalode; and Chief S. A. Lawal and wife as OSI Bobagunwa and Erelu Osi Bobagunwa.
