The Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, His Majesty Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, has promised to increase endowment fund for the Olabisi Onabanjo University best graduating student.

Oba Adedotun Gbadebo revealed this while receiving the Governing Council and Management of the Olabisi Onabanjo University in Abeokuta.

The Alake explained that his intention to raise his endowment fund for the best graduating student from 1 million naira to 5 million naira was based on the fact that he was totally satisfied for the continuity of a near perfect peaceful environment for good academic work.

The Egba Monarch commended the current Board of Governors and Management of the Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye for achieving this peaceful and progressive atmosphere.


Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, who was receiving the Board and Management of the University in Abeokuta, expressed satisfaction that the current managers of the institution had sustained the stability, cohesion and enable academic environment of a very good citadel of learning.


The Alake recalled that 12 years ago, a meeting to deliberate the immediate and long term needs of the University was to be held at that institution in which he and Chief Olusegun Obasanjo were present, had to be aborted when the students started to throw stones at the bus which was carrying the Elder Statesmen.

The Egba Monarch noted that the immediate past and the current leadership of the OOU, had performed wonderfully well to his admiration because it had reversed the ugly situation.

Oba Adedotun Gbadebo said that the Olabisi Onabanjo University was the best State owned Varsity adding that the Board of Governors and Management should strive hard to make it be among the 10 best in the country.

The Alake promised to raise his endowment fund for the best graduating student from one million naira to five million naira.

Speaking earlier, the Pro Chancellor and Chairman of Council of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Mrs. Mosun Bello Olushoga told the Alake that the entire Council and Management were very appreciative of the sustained support of the Alake for the institution since inception.

The Pro Chancellor disclosed that the Egba Monarch had always been responding to any form of call to assist the OOU, adding that the acceptance of the University’s honourary doctorate degree by the Alake was a great honour to the institution.

Mrs Mosun Bello Olushoga further disclosed that the endowment fund for the best student by the Monarch was a morale booster to the academic and administrative excellence of the university.

She also revealed that the University environment in the past few years and up till date, is very conducive for learning and good administrative performance.

In his introductory remarks, the Vice Chancellor Professor Ganiu Olatunde Olatunji, said that the OOU would never forget the inputs of the Alake, especially his endowment fund for academic excellence and advice for sustainable peace in the institution.

The Twenty-Seven men entourage comprised members of the Governing Council, the Management and some senior administrative staff.

Egba High Chiefs in attendance included Oba. Mufutawu Akindele, Aare Ganiu Babayeju, the Agba Akin; Rasheed Raji, the Bobatolu Matthew Koleosho,  Aare Baaroyin; Cheif Layi Labode.
