A new Chief Imam for the entire Egbaland has been appointed, he is Imam Sheikh Sa’ad Bamgbola, aged 89. He was presented to the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland on Thursday 18, June 2020, by the Imams of Oke-Ona, Gbagura, and Owu.
Sheikh Bamgbola, who succeeded the late Chief Imam, Sheikh Liadi Orunsolu, whose tenure lasted from 2003 to May 2020, was the OloriRatibi until his appointment.
Speaking on the occasion, Imam Sheikh Sa’ad Bamigbola said that as the new spiritual leader of Egba Muslim Community, he would do his best to promote understanding and unity among Muslims and other faiths within and outside Egbaland.
The new Imam commended the Alake for promoting religious harmony and physical development of Egbaland.
He enjoined Muslims in Egbaland and other parts of Ogun State to cooperate with their monarchs and the government in ensuring cordiality and religious tolerance in the State.
Responding, the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, commended the Muslim Community for choosing Imam Bamgbola by consensus.
Oba Adedotun Gbadebo noted with satisfaction that the selection of Imam Sa’ad Bamgbola would go a long way in promoting peace, progress, and prosperity among Muslims and their counterparts in other faiths.
The Alake therefore urged the new Imam to sustain the brotherhood among Muslims in Egbaland and Ogun State.
In the entourage of the new Imam were, Imam Oke Ona Egba, Alhaji Nosiru; Imam Gbagura, Professor Kamal Balogun and Imam Owu, Alhaji Kehinde as well as the Seriki Musulumi of Egbaland, Alhaji (Chief) Lateef Ayoola.
Also present at the occasion was Chief Kehinde Sofenwa, the Bantun of Egbaland.
