The Alake of Egbaland Oba Adedotun Gbadebo has called for the upgrading of the first Federal Government tertiary educational institution in Egbaland to a University of Education.
Oba Adedotun Gbadebo made the call while welcoming members of the Governing Council and Management of the Federal College of Education, Oshiele who paid a courtesy visit at Ake on Thursday (21-06-2018).
Oba Gbadebo advised the Council to work closely with the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, in order to quickly realize the University Status for the FCE, which was founded immediately after Ogun State was created in 1976 and located in the State Capital, Abeokuta.
The Alake told his guests that FCE had been living up to expectations of the people of Egbaland as the Egba were the first to embrace Western Education and civilization adding that the Institution had impacted possitively on people in their environment.
The Egba Monarch also urged the Federal Ministry of Education to encourage University Lecturers to compulsorily undertake courses in education to enable them professionally impart knowledge to students in order to produce well educated graduates.
He urged the FCE, which he described as perhaps the best of the 24 Federal Colleges of Education, to also collaborate with both the Ministry and Universities in producing professional teachers for tertiary institutions.
Speaking earlier, the Provost of the FCE, Dr. A A Ajayi, told the Alake that the Chairman and Members of the 6th Governing Council, were in town for a Statutory Meeting adding that they had seized the opportunity to pay a long standing courtesy visit to the Alake.
Dr A A Ajayi informed the Alake that the Council had been eager to come and thank him for his immense contributions to the development of the FCE.
The Provost disclosed that the Osiele residents, their immediate hosts, had been consistently very friendly and cooperative with the College.
In his speech, the Chairman of the Governing Council, Waziri Ali Gaji Gerima, commended and thanked the Alake for his regular and positive support of the institution.
The Chairman assured him that the Governing Council would take the FCE to an enviable next level among the 24 Federal Colleges of Education.
Alhaji Waziri Gerima said FCE was luckier than most its counterparts in have a cooperative and fatherly Monarch like the Alake adding that the Council’s assignment In the State would not have been completed without visiting the Alake.
The Federal College of Education Members of the Governing Council included Waziri Ali Gaji-Chairman, members were Mrs Grace Fabode Balogun, Mr Markaifi L Aje, Mrs Bola Shitta, Mr Temitope Balogun, Dr. Bola Ige and Mrs Sarah Bama.
The Principal Officers of the FCE, Osiele were Dr. A. A. Ajayi-Provost; Dr. K, A. Soyele-Deputy Provost; Mr R. A. Akinola-Registrar; Dr. G. O. Oyewole- Librarian and Mr. O. A. Alabi- Bursar.
The Oba and Chiefs present were the Olu Okeodo Ilupeju, Oba Muftau Akindele, Aare Ganiyu Babayeju, Ogboye S O Akinremi, Bobagbero Lanre Adebo, Bantun Kehinde Sofenwa and Aare Baaroyin Layi Labode
