AMOSUN ADVOCATES FOR LOCAL CONTENTS POLICY ON MINNING

The Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has advocated for local contents policy on mining for all states in the federation to enhance revenue generation.

The Governor made this call while speaking at a 2-day conference organised by the National Council on Finance and Economic Development (NACOFED) and Federal Ministry of Finance themed ‘’Enhancing Revenue Generation and Obtaining Best Value for Money in Expenditure’’ in Abeokuta.

Governor Amosun wanted the federal government to endorse a policy that would allow every state in the nation to manage its solid minerals to engender a better living standard for people of the states as well boost the internally generated revenue.

Amosun said the step became necessary to checkmate the activities of some explorers of solid minerals who by-passed the state to acquire licence from federal government to carry out mining activities, which according to him impairs on the revenue generation drive of the affected states, arguing that the revenue generation capacity of any nation determines to a large extent its ability to perform its statutory responsibilities.

The Minister for Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun while welcoming the delegates to the conference noted that the forum was aimed at charting the way forward towards repositioning the economy from its present state for fiscal sustainability.

Adeosun charged all stakeholders at the conference to rise up to the challenge towards improving the revenue generation of the states, block leakages, tackle financial recklessness to obtain best value for money on government expenditures in line with the policy thrust of the federal government.
