The Ogun State Governor Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has described all Nigerians including former military officials, Politicians and civil societies as direct beneficiaries of MKO Abiola sacrifice to stand for justice, fair play and entrenchment of democratic principles in the psychic of Nigerian leaders.
Senator Ibikunle Amosun made this assertion while giving vote of thanks at the Special National Honours Investiture for MKO Abiola, his running mate in the annulled June 12, 1993, Presidential Elections, Baba Gana, Kingibe and Human Rights Activist and Lawyer, Chief Gani Fawelimi.
The Ogun State Helmsman, speaking on behalf of the people of Ogun State, described President Buhari gesture in honouring Abiola with the highest award in Nigeria, as an act of uncommon courage, thoughtfulness, and justice.
He said that the award of GCFR on the Ogun State son, MKO Abiola, was not just a National Award of honour.
According to the Governor, it was uniquely an affirmation of Nigerians’ collective will and attestation of the sacrifice made by Chief MKO Abiola in building a strong and enduring constitutional democratic foundation for Nigeria of today and generations unborn.
Other Nigerian Leaders that spoke at the ceremony included the Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, former Lagos State Governor and Leader of APC, Bola Tinubu, a former Governor of Ogun State, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, former Speaker of House of Representatives, Iyorcha Ayu.
Among other dignitaries and Natural Rulers present at the occasion were the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba (Dr) Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo CFR and the Aalafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, CFR.
