The Commemoration Church Service, to mark the 60th Nigeria’s Independence, took a dramatic turn on Sunday, when the Guest Preacher, Retired Primate of the Anglican Church, Nigerian Communion, The Most Reverend Peter Jasper Akinola, momentarily stepped down from the Pulpit and moved towards the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, pointing the microphone to the Egba Monarch and asked him questions related to the theme of his sermon.
Primate Jasper Akinola, who was speaking on the topic: Rejecting the Blood-Shedding Culture; pointedly asked the Alake, that as our loving father would have given everything to a child who in turn is stubborn, wasteful, quarrelsome, and engaging in many vices in spite of the father’s total love, what would the monarch do to the recalcitrant child?
Oba Adedotun answered in the affirmative, that he would discipline the child to get him back to the path of reason, humanness, responsibility and godliness.
Not yet done, Primate Jasper Akinola apparently wanted more answer from political leaders and smartly approached the Ogun State Governor and asked the same question.
Prince Dapo Abiodun also answered that he would find out why the child was not responding to his boundless love, adequate moral and material provisions, adding that he will try again and again to put the child right.
The Ogun helmsman said if the child remained incorrigible, he would pray and perhaps punish him to get him back on track.
Primate Akinola summarised the answers from both the Alake and the Ogun State Governor, being what God did to the children of Israel when they were engaged in all forms of sins including blood shedding as it has been happening in Nigeria since our independence in reference to the book of Ezekiel.
He concluded that Nigeria would know peace only if and when all active participants in serial commitment of sins such as economic, political and moral corruption, confessed and repent from their sins, especially massive plundering of the sovereign wealth of Nigeria and serial blood shedding since 1960 up to date.
He referred to active plunderers and blood shedding groups as including military, political, traditional, civil service, as well as labour and student leaders, who Primate Jasper Akinola admonished, must quit their persistent and serial sins to make Nigeria great again.
