ABEOKUTA – The Ogun state chapter of the Alliance for New Nigeria has elected Ademola Ogunbanjo as its governorship candidate for the 2019 general election in the state.
Ogunbanjo was unanimously elected as the candidate by delegates at the party’s primary held in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital, with representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies in attendance.
The chairman of the electoral committee, afolabi Ebenezer odetayo, declared Ogunbanjo as the party’s standard bearer after a voice vote by party delegates during the exercise and urged the party faithful to quickly begin to canvass for vote for the party at their respective wards.
While speaking with newsmen, ogunbanjo expressed readiness to wrestle power from the ruling all progressives congress in the state during the 2019 general elections.
He said, “I have been preparing and what I believe is the preparation for the race and the preparation to function in office are two different types. So we are already and we are prepared for it because we are running it already.
“You may want to thank me for emerging as the flagbearer of the party, but the work just began really. What we have been doing is aspiring to become the flagbearer. Now, I am officially running for governor and it is a new type of work.
“What we have been doing has to be amplified. And during the journey to the office, when we need next year, between now and then we will be even more prepared to function effectively in office.”
He therefore, expressed confidence in the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) in conducting a hitch-free elections next year.
