The ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and its candidate, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo are clearly in the lead as the Independent National Electoral Commission declares result in 12 of the 21 local government areas so far declared before the commission’s officials went on break on Sunday.
However, there were complaints of over-voting, violence and non-conduct of the election in several registration areas and polling units in several local council areas of the state.
The Vice-Chancellor Of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Obi is the returning and collation officer of the election.
In the 12 Local Government Areas whose Results have so far been declared, APGA won in 11 while Young Progressives Party (YPP) won in Nnewi North Local government area.
The Local governments so far declared are Dunukofia, Awka South, Oyi, Ayamelum, and Anaocha.
Others are Anambra East, Idemili South, Onitsha South, Njikoka, Nnewi North and Orumba South.
Cases of voting and areas where elections were not held at all were recorded as the electoral and collation officers of the various local governments turned in their reports.
For instance, in Idemili South, over 89 polling units were affected by violence, non-conduct of the election, snatching of election materials and so on.
Political parties have already filed petitions to the INEC.
In a related development, the same com[laints was lodged in Anambra West where violence and malfunctioning of Bimodal Verification Accreditation Machines (BVAS) prevented over 3,004 voters from exercising their franchise.
In Ayamelum there were overvoting in three polling units with 1462 voters in Ifiteogwari and Omor.
Similar occurrences were recorded in Nnewi North and Anaocha
