ASUU Extends Strike For Another Eight Weeks


Barely 24 hours of ASUU meeting with NEC, the Academic Union of Universities, ASUU has decided to extend the just concluded four weeks strike for another eight weeks. 

The meeting held at the Union’s national Secretariat at the University of Abuja on Sunday, 13th of March, 2022, and ended on Monday, 14th of March, 2022,:made it known that, the strike would be extended for another eight weeks pending the time the Federal Government would address and meet the Union’s demand.

However, the Union had not made any official public statement regarding the outcome of the meeting, a NEC member of the Union who pleaded anonymity confirmed the development of the meeting.

The Nations Newspaper reported a source told that, there are two key issues which must be addressed and resolved before the union could suspend the strike which are:-   Renegotiation of the 2009 Federal Government of Nigeria ASUU agreement bordering on the working conditions of Nigerian academics  and  the development of University Transparency Accountability System (UTAS) in the University system
