The Permanent Secretary, Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Mrs. Mojisola Dosunmu, has charged Executives and members of the Ogun State Chapter of Conference of Bursars of Secondary Schools (COBUSS), to be alive to their responsibilities, as their roles in the development of education cannot be over-emphasized.
Mrs. Dosunmu gave the charge while playing host to the COBUSS executives in her office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, said bursars had a major role to play in putting records straight in all the secondary schools across the State, adding that there must be checks and balances with regards to school spending and funding.
She assured that their requests would be given utmost consideration, as necessary steps would also be taken to address issues raised.
Speaking earlier, President, Conference of Bursars of Secondary Schools (CBSS) Ogun State Chapter, Comrade Olaleye Olufemi, appealed to government to look into the shortage of bursars and account personnel in public secondary schools across the State, adding that statutory retirement, deaths, among others, had contributed to the shortage of bursars and accountants in the schools.
He stated other challenges to include, exclusion of bursars as constant signatories to all schools account, disparity in the distribution of account personnel to all schools among others.
According to him, “Financial regulation of section 804 States “The signatory to any account must include the officer preparing the account”.
Olaleye said the Association was ready to assist the Commission to proffer solutions to the challenges for effective service delivery.
