The Chairman, House of Assembly Committee on Youth, Sports and Employment generation, Hon. Shola Adams has charged athletes going for the Fifth National Youth Games, to be good ambassadors of the State, as they strive to win laurels at the games .
Adams gave the charge at a brief ceremony held at Moshood Abiola Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta, to discharge athletes going for the competition.
“In every competition, there is a loser and a winner, winning that gold is what we want from you, don’t get distracted, you have a mission and it is to bring home as many gold medals as possible”, he said.
He admonished them to make the State proud by surpassing their achievements at the last festival, saying there is always a reward for hardwork.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sport, Mr. Kola Fagbohun explained that the welfare of all the athletes had been taken care of, as the ministry had opened account for each of the athletes for transparency, advising contingents to be role models of the State.
He appreciated the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for committing resources for the games despite paucity of funds, praying for a successful outing at the games.
In her remark, sport icon, Chief Falilat Ogunkoya urged the athletes to hold their heads high and be dedicated to make the State proud.
Speaking on behalf of other athletes, Iswat Badmus and Ebuke Goodness appreciated government for providing resources needed for the games, thereby boosting their morale, with a promise to make the State proud.
