Determined to further sanitise forestry industry and curb illegal activities for improved revenue generation, Ogun State Commissioner for Forestry, Engr. Tunji Akinosi, has charged Foresters to provide information that would lead to quick interception and arrest of illegal loggers.
Akinosi, who gave the charge in a meeting at Oke- Mosan, said, information given would be treated with utmost confidentiality, saying timely interception of illegal loggers by the monitoring team would improve the socio-economic condition of the State.
“It is part of your job as field officers to give useful and timely tips that will lead to quick action and interception of illegal loggers and other illegitimate activities in the reserve. This will form part of your contributions to curb the act and improve the State’s Internally Generated Revenue, (IGR)”, he said.
The Commissioner said tree felling without recourse to rules and regulations, in line with global practice had to stop in the State’s Reserves.
In his contribution, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Lateef Benson, warned the Officers to avoid conniving with perpetrators of illegal activities, as anyone found culpable would be dealt with according to the rules.
