The new administration in Ogun State, under the leadership of Prince Dapo Abiodun, has said that it will deploy solar power, as an alternative source of energy to communities, Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and educational institutions across the State, to further attract private investors thereby boosting economic activities.
Governor Abiodun who stated this in his inaugural speech at the swearing-in ceremony held in Abeokuta, the state capital, noted that, his administration would take full advantage of gas pipeline network in the State to develop Independent Power Project (IPP).
The Governor stated that this had become necessary, in order to discourage rural-urban migration, generate employment, as well as encourage entrepreneurial activities, to boost the economy of the State.
” In order to take full advantage of the gas pipeline network that passes through the State, we shall closely work with the power sector regulators and the private sectors to develop IPPs, especially in industrial clusters, residential estates, commercial centers, as well as rural areas, where regular supply of electricity will be a major attraction”, he said.
In their separate interviews, a party Chieftain in Abeokuta South Local Government Area of the State, Mr. Sodipo Wasiu and a Cleric, Pastor Sunday Adennusi, admonished the Governor to ensure an all encompassing infrastructural development across the State, while giving priority to neglected areas.
