The Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire stated in Abuja during a briefing on the Coronavirus outbreak in Nigeria, that passengers are mobile, thus, no country can possibly keep track of all of them
Dr Osagie disclosed that information is being circulated from time to time that passengers who are developing any symptoms or feeling ill should inform appropriate authorities before landing
He added that focus is on international airports, as well as seaports but not on local airports to avoid reckless waste of resources and that the five functional international airports are being monitored adequately
The Minister of Health also stated that every country has a system of regulating the outbreak, such as closing down of schools, reducing high number of gatherings, reducing flight patterns, and that those tracked by the Nigerian authorities are tested in isolation facilities, urging all travelers to comply with authorities and any safety information directed at them
According to the Minister, Nigeria has no reason to shut down schools or religious institutions as there are five capacitated facilities available to treat cases of Covid-19 across the country
