The Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, in support of the Government of Ogun State and Nigeria on the Coronavirus pandemic, has given out 5,000 face masks to the 6 Abeokuta Local Governments
The donation took place on Wednesday, 15th of April, 2020, at the Ake Palace, where the Alake expressed his gratitude to all those who had been taking care of their community.
The Egba Monarch stated that in order to fight the covid-19 pandemic, we needed to help ourselves by providing support to the less privileged adding that one person could not do this alone.
Oba Gbadebo further implored that all citizens abide by the Government’s directives to stay at home in order to avoid the spread of the virus
He disclosed that through the Oba Gbadebo Foundation, more would done to relief the grassroots of the lockdown
Alake also advised the Local Government Chairmen that they should do more to enlighten and educate the people on the coronavirus and ensure their compliance with the stay at home order.
The Ewekoro Local Government Chairman, Mr Emmanuel Olumuyiwa Babayemi, who gave the vote of thanks on behalf of other Six Egba Local Government Counterparts, to the Oba Gbadebo Foundation, noted that the relief package was a furtherance to some laudable efforts that the Alake had done earlier quietly, and added that the Egba Monarch’s efforts was in full collaboration and cooperation with those of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s Relief Packages to citizens of the State.
Meanwhile the Alake, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo has commended Egba Communities for carrying out his advice to collectively bring succour to their immediate compatriots.
Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, who made the call during a Press Briefing at the Ake Palace, disclosed that he was very pleased to note that many Egba Groups, Religious Bodies and individuals, had been giving palliatives to both the Egbas and other residents in their areas.
The Alake said that their act of compassion would go a long way in supporting the efforts of Ogun State Government, urging others to emulate the good gesture.
Other Local Government Chairmen present included, Hon. Somorin Oluseye; Odeda Local Government Chairman, Mr. Olanrewaju Olalekan Samod; Vice Chairman, Abeokuta South, Hon. Adebayo Rabiu, Supervisor, representing Abeokuta North Chairman, and others.
Two Egba Chiefs present at the occasion were Bantun of Egbaland, Chief Kehinde Sofenwa, and the Aare Baaroyin of Egbaland, Chief Layi Labode.
