Covid-19: NYSC Commences 7th Orientation Exercise Since Outbreak, As DG Assures Of Adequate Security For Corps Members

Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim has announced the commencement of the 2021 Batch “C” Stream 1 orientation course, said to be the 7th Orientation Exercise since the outbreak of coronavirus.




The DG who disclosed this on Wednesday, at a Press Briefing, which took place at the National Headquarters of the Scheme, in Abuja advised all married pregnant and nursing mothers not deployed to their husbands’ places of domicile to proceed to the NYSC camps within their spouses’ states of residence.

He however, insisted that they must present for registration in addition to other documents, evidence of marriage, husbands’ identity and evidence of husbands’ place of domicile.

This is as he also assured of adequate security arrangements for Corps members and Camp officials during the exercise, scheduled to commence on Wednesday, 20th October, 2021 in all orientation camps nationwide.

Brigadier General Ibrahim who was represented at the event by Mrs. Adenike Adeyemi, Director of Press and Public Relations Unit, said, “Commencement and Registration is on Wednesday, 20th October 2021, Cut Off Date for Registration is Sunday, 24th October, 2021, Swearing-In-Ceremony will be on Tuesday, 26th October 2021 while the Closing-Ceremony will come up on – Tuesday 9th November, 2021.”

According to the DG, details of the orientation exercise have since been published in both print and online media, adding that, all mechineries have been put in Place to ensure a hitch-free exercise.

He said, “Prospective corps members and staff are aware of COVID-19 rules and safety protocols. In addition, every PCM and camp official would be tested at the camp gate and only those who test negative will gain access into the camp as NCDC officials are present in the 37 orientation camps. All camps have been fumigated and decontaminated in readiness to receive prospective Corps Members.

“There will be compulsory use of face mask, 2-meter social distancing and other non-pharmaceutical interventions on safety protocols in all our camps; (a) The hostel arrangement is in compliance with this. (b) Staggered registration of PCMs in batches still undertaken to avoid overcrowding at registration points.”

A webinar, he revealed was organized by the Scheme for prospective corps members with the NCDC on Friday 15th October 2021 on the safe reopening of orientation camps.

And in order to ensure the safety of prospective corps members, the DG, who is also an Associate Professor stated that, their synergy with security agencies is still “very effective.” “Effective liaison and discuss between the DG NYSC with DSS, NA, NSCDC, Nigeria Police and so on.

“Prior to the commencement of the orientation exercise the following meetings, he noted were held to ensure smooth and a hitch-free mobilization and orientation exercise.

They include, “Pre-mobilization workshop; Where Student Affairs Officers, Data Entry Officers of Corps Producing Institutions, Deployment and Relocation Officers of NYSC met to deliberate on more and credible mobilization processes.

“Meeting with Regulatory Bodies i.e. JAMB, NBTE, NUC, NABTEB, Ministry of Education, Medical &Dental Council of Nigeria and other professional bodies to reiterate that NYSC has zero tolerance for mobilization of unqualified graduates.

“NYSC Management meeting with State Coordinators, Camp Directors, Camp Commandants on Thursday 14th October to discuss new policy directions and ensure strict Covid-19 protocols during the orientation exercise. Security and welfare of PCMs and Corps Members was exhaustively addressed.”
