Towards defeating Covid-19, Ogun State government has called for more commitment from all its health workers across the State, saying it would continue to prioritize their welfare.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, who made this call in a press statement, said government had enrolled about 8, 000 health workers in the State Health Insurance Scheme, describing this as the “first of its kind” in the country.

Coker said that the State government is committed to leading new innovations in the health care sector, adding that plans are in place to reverse the negative trend of events in the sector.

She said both clinical and non-clinical members of staff, who have varying levels of risk at work, would benefit from the insurance scheme, revealing that the certificates were already being reeled out in phases.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Ogun State Government has in its employ about 3250 health workers at the Local government levels, 3200 at the state health facilities and MDAs and about 1300 @ the Teaching Hospital level.

“The Certificates are being issued in phases due to the logistic challenges of most organisations in the face of Covid-19 pandemics”, She said.

The Commissioner called for the cooperation of all stakeholders to defeat the virus, saying this is also crucial to moving the health sector forward in the State.

“This is a critical period when we need the solidarity of the Nigerian Medical Association, National Association of Government General and Dental Practitioners, National Association of Nurses and Midwives, Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria and a host of other professional Association in the State”, She added.

She said the Prince Dapo Abiodun led administration would always appreciate the doggedness and commitment of health workers to the well-being of the entire citizenry.
