The Department of State Services, DSS, Raises Alarm On Possible Religious Riots In Lagos, Kano and Sokoto States.
The Department of State Services, DSS, says it has uncovered plans to stir up religious violence in Lagos, Kano, Sokoto and some other states in the country.
A statement by the Head, Public Relations Officer of the service, Peter Afunanya, DSS, warned about a plot to incite religious violence across the country.
He said the targeted States included Sokoto, Kano, Kaduna, Plateau, Rivers, Oyo, Lagos and some in the South East.
According Afunanya, part of the plan was to cause inter-religious conflicts as well as use their foot soldiers to attack some worship centres, religious leaders, personalities, key and vulnerable points.
The Service therefore advised Nigerians to be wary of these elements and shun all divisive tendencies aimed at inciting or setting them against one another.
The security outfit also called for collaboration with sister agencies to ensure that public order is maintained.
It warned those hatching these plots to desist from such in the interest of peace, security and development of the country.
The service however encouraged law-abiding citizens to report suspected breaches of peace around them to the nearest security agencies.
