ABEOKUTA – A mild drama occurred on Friday as the Ogun State governorship candidate of Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Hon. Adekunle Akinlade and some party stalwarts stormed the party secretariat of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC to declare their support for President Muhammadu Buhari re-election.
NEWSFLAGSHIP recalls that the opposition party, APM had on Thursday at its official launching held at MKO Abiola International Stadium, Abeokuta adopted President Buhari as its Presidential candidate.
The APM national chairman, Mamman Yusuf Dantalle while presenting the party’s flag to Hon. Akinlade promised to handover the flag to Governor Ibikunle Amosun of APC who would thereafter transmit the flag to President Buhari as symbol of their loyalty to the president.
But at a stakeholders meeting with APC members from the 236 wards of the state held at the APC secretariat along Abiola Way in Abeokuta, the APM governorship candidate who is the anointed candidate of Governor Amosun besieged the secretariat in company of his campaign Director-General, Alhaji Sarafa Ishola with a support letter.
While speaking, the Director- General of APM campaign organisation, Alhaji Sarafa Tunji Ishola said they brought a message of solidarity to President Buhari, adding that they were committed to his re-election.
In his response, the state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun explained that, the APM members were at the APC secretariat to submit a letter to the APC in Ogun State expressing the wish of APM to adopt President Buhari as their presidential candidate in the 2019 presidential election.
The governor while receiving the adoption letter assured that it would be delivered to the President. He also acknowledged the receipt of the letter with a reply.
Amosun has assured that he would work tirelessly to deliver the votes of Ogun people to President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 presidential election.
He urged hundreds of party supporters at the secretariat to ensure that they vote massively for the President in the February 16, 2019 presidential election.
Amosun declared: “Our detractors are trying to destroy the APC in Ogun State. The best way to answer them is to vote massively for President Buhari. This is because power resides with the people and not with the detractors who are bent on destroying us. We will tell them that we are on ground in Ogun State”.
He said Ogun APC does not fear the adversaries of the party in the state but “the leeway that they enjoy is our fear for God and President Buhari”.
Thanking APC members for standing steadfast and tenaciously in the face of oppression and violation of their fundamental rights by the National Secretariat of the party, he urged them to eschew violence and aggression of any kind and said they must conduct themselves peacefully throughout the 2019 elections.
Amosun disclosed that he will launch his senatorial campaign on Thursday, December 27, 2018, adding that branded APC vehicles will be distributed to the 20 local government chapters of the party for the purpose of electioneering campaign.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman of APC in Ogun State, Chief Derin Adebiyi, said the meeting was called to keep party members abreast of the happenings in the state.
