To enhance and save historical events and cultural heritage, the establishment of e-library, has been described as an avenue that would give traditional rulers at various levels, the useful information needed in the discharge of their roles and responsibilities.

Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Afolabi Afuape, made this known while delivering a lecture titled: “Enhancing Traditional Institutions through E-Library” at the 5th Coronation Anniversary of Arole Oduduwa, Ooni of Ife at Ile-Ife.

Afuape noted that e-library would in no little way enhance the dissemination of stored facts and data whenever and wherever they are required by the government, communities, traditional institutions, as well as international organisations and companies.

“The way we live, work, learn and relate with each other, have been significantly transformed with the use of technology in most aspects of existence. Aside the fact that the mode of communication is enhanced, information is readily made available at the snap of a finger, which, when compared to the medieval times reveals a great deal of transformation”, he submitted.

The Commissioner added that the traditional rulers also play a quasi-judicial role in their domains, on matters such as land and chieftaincy disputes, saying reference to past information which had been stored with the aid of technology would fast track decision on such matters.
