Mr President complained that, with all the adequate and necessary provisions and support given to the INEC, the Agency still went ahead to delay the election despite the fact that Nigerians had suffered the pain of travel in alternative to exercise their electoral duties.

The President said he was deeply worried that despite the long notice given and our preparations each regionally and internationally, the National Electoral Commission delayed the Presidential and National Assembly elections only few hours to its commencement, Buhari, in a statement he signed personally on Saturday morning in Daura,, Katsina State regretted INEC action
However, Buhari urged the electoral body, INEC to ensure the protection of already distributed election materials and pleaded to Nigerians to be law abiding .
Buhari also declared that he had decided to relocate to national capital from Daura to make sure that the meeting the INEC had with the stakeholders was successful.
He urged the INEC to make sure that materials already distributed to area units were safe and would not get into wrong hands,
however that everything is completed to avoid the lapses that resulted during this unfortunate postponement, and guarantee a free and honest election on the rescheduled dates” Buhari aforesaid.
Buhari affirmed his commitment to the independence and neutrality of the electoral umpire and therefore wanted INEC to sustain the quality of the electoral method and ballot, adding that all political stakeholders and Nigerians would still rally support for the INEC at this moment of national democratic journey.
HE, therefore, appealed to all Nigerians to refrain from all civil disorder and stay peaceful, loyal and united to make sure that no force or conspiracy derail our democratic development.
