In fulfilment of its promise to develop the Agricultural sector, the Ogun State Government has partnered with the Federal Government to train fish farmers engaging in artisanal fishing business.

The training, held at Abeokuta, was organised by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Department of Agricultural Extension, in partnership with Ogun State Agricultural Development programme (OGADEP), for fish farmers and sellers to boost fish consumption and exportation.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Mrs. Abosede Ogunleye, while addressing the participants, disclosed that the training targeted fish handling, processing, preservation and marketing of cultured fisheries to stimulate the hitherto neglected sector.

Represented by the Director, Agricultural Extension, OGADEP, Mrs. Sola Awe, Ogunleye noted that the training was timely as the current administration in the State was working tirelessly to develop the fisheries sector, to improve internally generated revenue, as well as boost the protein intake of its citizenry.

Earlier in his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Usman Bello, represented by the Director, Federal Department of Agricultural Extension, Mr. Adekunle Musibau noted that artisanal fisheries could be developed, by providing the people with necessary orientation and modern techniques that would ease the process of doing aqua business. Responding on behalf of the participants, Mrs. Adeola Gbadamosi, appreciated the government for the opportunity afforded artisans involved in the aqua farming business, saying the farmers would use the opportunity to increase their productivity.
