The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy in Nigeria, Isa Pantami, said on Monday that the Nigerian government was considering the replacement of Bank Verification Numbers with the National Identity Numbers.
Mr. Pantami revealed this while briefing journalists after a facility tour and inspection of the ongoing NIN enrolment exercise at NIMC and other designated centers.
He said the BVN is a regulator’s policy, while NIN is a law.
He pronounced that the strength of the law wherever you go is not the same with a policy of one institution.
He made it know during the briefing that BVN is our secondary database, while NIN and the database is the primary one in the country that every institution should refer to NIMC.
He said Nigeria government has came up Nigeria Data Protection Regulation that will always protect the informations of the citizens.
He said the Nigerian Government is also in collaboration with the private sectors in the NIN enrolment.
He assured the populace that they will take care of all informations and make sure that security is excellent and will not allow anybody to compromise the content because it is a trust from the citizens given to them.
