FLOODING: YNLG BEGINS EVACUATION OF DRAINAGES

In a bid to contain flooding during rainfall, Yewa North Local Government has commenced clearing of drainages across the Council Area.

The Director, Water Resources, Environmental Sanitation (WES), Mr. Timothy Akinjobi who disclosed this to journalists in his office at Ayetoro, said the move was necessary in order to prevent flooding, as well as safeguarding of lives and property of the people, advising traders at various markets in the area to always observe weekly environmental sanitation exercise at their selling points.

Mr. Akinjobi implored residents to heed government’s directives on waste management and desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse in drainages, adding that the act was prohibited by law and should be avoided, as defaulters would be apprehended by the Environmental Marshalls.

Also speaking, Chairman, Oke-Ola Community Development Association, Ayetoro, Mr. Joseph Akinremi and Iyaloja of Ayetoro, Mrs. Ajoke Jaiyeola, thanked government at all levels for their proactive steps to prevent future recurrence of flooding in the State, pledging their cooperation and adherence to government’s directives on waste management.
