ABEOKUTA – Ogun State female football team on Thursday whitewash their Ekiti counterpart 5-0 during the ongoing Zonal elimination competition of the National Youth Games held at M.K.O Abiola International Stadium Kuto, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The Ogun State team rues many chances in the first 10 minutes of the encounter, but Odufuwa Oritoke put the home team at the front after converting a direct free kick from 20yard in the 18th minutes of the first half.
The Ekiti team created some chances in the 32nd minutes, but their efforts was denied by the Ogun goal keeper.
The center referee further compounded more woes for the Ekiti girls when he awarded penalty for the host team in the 41 minutes which was converted by Oritoke Odufuwa.
In the 62nd minutes, the Ogun team captain Bankole Soffiyah increased the goal tally to three when she tapped in a rebound from the Ekiti goal keeper. Oritoke Odufuwa finally got her hat-trick in seventy-two minutes while the team captain sealed the score line to five goals.
Speaking to Newsflagship shortly after the match, the Ogun State female football coach, Mr Akeem Adaranijo attributed his team’s success to team work and hard work.
Coach Adaranijo said the rigorous training by the girls in the past one week gave his players the physical strength above their opponent.
“We camped the girls ahead for almost a week. We have been training morning and afternoon, I think that really help them.”
He therefore promised football fans in Ogun State of good representation in the forth coming National Youth Game billed to hold in Ilorin next month.
Meanwhile, other results in the male football game that took place on Thursday include; Lagos boys beat their Osun opponent 2-1, while Ogun boys lost to Ekiti 2-3.
