Multiple reports, from top Government and individuals in Lagos State show that former Governor of Lagos state, Lateef Jakande is dead.
The reports said that he died at the age of 91.
Jakande was also fondly referred to by admirers as Baba Kakere, for his apparently closeness to the Sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo as well as the latter’s mutual love for him.
Jakande was Governor of Lagos State in Nigeria from 1979 to 1983. He was also the Minister of Works under the Sani Abacha military regime (1993–98).
During his administration as Governor, he introduced housing and educational programs targeting the poor, building new neighbourhood primary and secondary schools and providing free primary and secondary education.
It is said that he constructed over 30,000 housing units during his administration.
