The Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, His Majesty, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, CFR, Okukenu IV, has advised the Council of the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNAAB) to make its full effects of residing in Abeokuta felt across States and globally.
The prominent Egba Monarch made the call on Friday at his Ake Palace in Abeokuta while receiving the Council of the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNAAB) led by its Chairman and the Pro Chancellor Dr.Barr.Aboki Zhawa.
The Alake recalled that ever since 1948 when Egba lost the University College, London to Ibadan, FUNAAB has been the greatest thing that had ever happened to Egba indigenous. He noted that the impacts of the University must be felt in and outside Ogun State.
He called on the Pro Chancellor Dr. Zhawa and his Council to extend the results of their agricultural researches to the farmers either through the ministry or directly. He urged them to make Abeokuta and its environment the food baskets of the Federation.
The Alake told the Council that he was worried and regretted the removal of Management Courses from the Institution’s curriculum following a directive made by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu to the institution.
He hoped that the peaceful atmosphere would now take FUNAAB back to his formal enviable position of being the second best University of Agriculture in Africa.
He urged the Chairman to ensure that Management Courses are fully reintegrated in the University because Agriculture could not stand alone without relevant Inter-disciplinary courses like Agric-Engineering, Agric- Accounting, Agric- Marketing, and other courses that would make Agricultural production to go full cycle as an all embracing discipline.
The Alake also commended the new Pro Chancellor for restoring order and normalcy after a short period of administrative confusion and appealed to the academic and non academic staff as well as the students to give the new Pro Chancellor and Chairman of Council, their maximum cooperation and understanding, in order to mutually move the Institution forward as a specialized Institution.
Earlier in his address, Dr.Barr.Aboki Zhawa, appreciated the Egba Paramount Monarch for his proverbial and fatherly support for peace, progress and productivity in the foremost Agricultural Institution.
The Chairman of the Council, reassured the Alake and the entire people of Ogun State that enduring peace and collective cooperation had returned to FUNAAB.
He as well disclosed that the appointment of a new Vice Chancellor was undergoing normal process and would soon be concluded.
The Acting Registrar, Dr. Linda Onwuka while expressing the vote of thanks on behalf of the Council, appreciated His Majesty for warmth and royal reception always accorded FUNAAB and its Community.
