FUNAI 6TH CONVOCATION LECTURE: Don Begs Federal Government To Extend Some Funding To Private Universities.

There has been a call on the Federal Authorities to extend assistance to the Private Initiatives in Tertiary Education.

In his Opening Address as the Chairman of the 6th FUNAI Convention Lecture on Monday,13 December, 2021, Prof Charles Chike Onachie, former VC, Renaissance University, had argued that the products of the Private Universities were also for the economic a d social development of the nation.

He said that Funding of Public and Private Universities, had been a major recurring topic.

Prof Onachie said that each varsity needed high funding to pay its dues to the society.

He said he was happy that TETFUND officer was there to listen to his points, adding that all these should be a food for thought if the problems of tertiary education were to be solved.

He urged the Federal Govt to note and accept that all universities should be supported by Federal Government.

The Former V.C argued that Lecturers must be encouraged to deliver best student products to make Nigeria greater.

He pointed out that it was wrong for Federal Government to discriminate between Private and Public.

The Chairman disclosed that the VC would only spend what he had for the development of the institution.

Looking at the issue from another angle, Emeritus Professor Onyechi Obidoa argued that Universities could not dependent on Government Funding alone.

He therefore called for cooperation and collaboration as an enduring solution to the issue.

Alake’s entourage at the occasion, comprises Balogun Sikirullahi Atobatele, Baagbimo Akanni Akinwale, Ambassador Toye Okanlawon, Bantun Kehinde Sofenwa, Asiwaju Baamofin Rotimi Oduntan, and Aare Baaroyin Layi Labode
