Golf Club: Alake Wins Kings’ Cup Tournament

The Group of golfers led by the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, CFR, Okukenu IV, has emerged winner of the second edition of the Kings’ Cup Tournament of the Abeokuta Golf Club.

In an interview with Newsflagship at the Ake Palace on Wednesday, Mr Kola Adeneye, the Captain of the Abeokuta Golf Club made the announcement, adding that his mission at the Palace was to present the Cup won by the Alake Group to the Egba Apex Monarch.

Besides, Chief Adeneye further explained that the King’s Cup Tournament was organised to be among the 4 Sectional Monarchs in Egbaland, namely, Alake, Agura, Osile Oke-Ona, and Olowu of Owu.

“The Alake Team came first during this Second edition. We had the first edition shortly after the lockdown last year.” He added.

“Alake felt so happy winning the Cup this year. His team came second last year. He felt so elated and I’m sure he’ll look forward to also winning the next edition.”

“Let me also say that the hallmark of this second edition is to use the opportunity to raise money to build a pavilion at the Abeokuta Golf Club, which would be named King’s Pavilion.”

“It is not going to be the only one, of course, subsequent ones would follow but whatever we have here, we would use it to construct the Pavilion, that is the main reason we had this Edition.”

The Captain revealed that of the 18 Holes in the Abeokuta Golf Club, Alake is a sponsor of Hole 10, known as Royalty Hole.

He said, “It’s a Part 3 Hole, a Short Hole if a player plays once and his ball enters the hole, the Alake gives a sum of 100 thousand naira to that player.
He did one in August and that had become the practice by the monarch.”

“Alake is somebody loved by all that relates with him. Everybody feels happy that the Alake is on the Golf Course with them, and I’m sure people usually like his association.” He added.
