Traditional Rulers in Ogun State have been charged to see their appointments as opportunity to serve, by ensuring enhanced socio-economic development of their domains.
The State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, gave the charge at the Installation and Presentation of Staff of Office to the new Olu of Abalabi, in Ewekoro Local Government Area, Oba Bakare Osunrinde, saying traditional rulers should maximise closeness to the people, to mobilise their subjects home and in Diaspora for developmental projects that would make life comfortable for the people.
The Governor, who was represented by the Director, Chieftaincy Affairs, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Adesoji Adewuyi stated that his administration was committed to laudable projects that would place Ogun at a vantage position among comity of States.
He enjoined the new Kabiyesi to work with other royal fathers in the Local Government, sought advice when necessary, to justify the trust reposed in him by the Government and the people of his community.
In his welcome address, the Transition Committee Chairman, Ewekoro Local Government, Hon. Emmanuel Babafemi called on the Monarch to use his leadership qualities to muster for support of the entire people of Abalabi, in order to make their community a model in developmental activities.
In his goodwill message, Alawowo of Awowo, Oba Abdul-Gafar Tijani, who spoke on behalf of Olowu of Owu, Oba Dr. Adegboyega Dosumu, urged the new Monarch not to be biased in his judgments but co-opt members of the community in decision making, to guarantee peaceful co-existence and improved community service.
Delivering his acceptance speech, Oba Osunrinde, expressed gratitude to Governor Abiodun for approving his appointment, promising that his town would witness tremendous development during his tenure.
