Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has expressed surprise at the twist given to the essence of his meeting with the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, held recently in Abeokuta.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Kunle Somorin, Governor Abiodun said, rather than people focusing on developmental issues discussed, attention was being given to his good gesture of securing loan to pay the May salaries of Civil Servants, saying, the essence of the meeting was to harmonise the positions of Government with that of the party on how to move the State forward.
The statement had it that, the Governor at the meeting, unfolded his administration’s agenda on how to rehabilitate primary healthcare centres in each of the 236 wards of the state, using local manpower, explaining that 236 primary schools would also be rehabilitated.
He explained further that the rehabilitation would cut across every ward in the state, while a job portal would equally be set up for his administration to have accurate statistics of skilled and unskilled labour in the State.
The State’s helmsman according to the statement said, he had emplaced a portal to register unemployed youths in the State, on a continuous basis, with a view to providing them jobs suitable for their trade and academic qualifications.
“All graduates and those with vocational training across the State will give their information and we will endeavour to match them with potential employers, not only within the civil service but also with the private sector, with whom we are partnering”, he stated.
To ensure that the citizens and residents of the State are not short-changed, “we will send a local content bill for legislative action, such that investors will first look inward to availability of workers in Ogun State and make our youths their primary catchment area when they site their companies here”.
The Governor in the statement stated further that, in his determination to develop and address the glaring infrastructural deficit in the State, rehabilitation of roads would be on the front burner, to ease transportation of goods, assuring that road rehabilitation projects would be partly handled by local contractors.
The consultative meeting which was held behind closed door, further agreed on the operations of the Governor’s food security agenda, where 10,000 farmers would be engaged and supported in mechanised farming, with attendant value chain benefits to make agric-business, bedrock of his administration’s plan to lift people out of poverty
“Each farmer will get a parcel of land and be supported with clearing, seedlings, extension and off takers services to ensure profitability of their ventures”, he explained.
The process, the statement added, had the support of President Muhammadu Buhari, with a partnership arrangement to be funded by the Central Bank of Nigeria and the State Government.
Prince Abiodun, who lauded the spirit of magnanimity displayed since his party won the March 9, 2019, Governorship Election, assured party members that all his developmental programmes, as enshrined in the Party Manifestoes for the people, as well as the leadership of the Party, were on course.
