The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has warned that landlords, harboring kidnappers, and other criminals, would have their property demolished.
Governor Dapo Abiodun disclosed this during the official inauguration of Amotekun Corps and Commissioning of Patrol Vehicles and motorcycles in Ogun State, on Thursday, April 1st, 2021, at Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.
Governor Abiodun said that the six Southwest Governors agreed to set up Southwest Security Network, a truly indigenous security outfit that would compliment the efforts of the existing security forces and promote maximum protection of lives and properties in Nigeria.
Abiodun disclosed that the Governors of the Southwest could no longer fold their arms when local security in the areas are needed.
The Governor told the Amotekun Corps that they were not above the law, but they should work in true synergy with other security agencies to achieve the desired goals of total security of Ogun State.
He added that their role was primarily to prevent crimes and gather inteligence systematically and professionally.
In his goodwill message, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo called on the newly commissioned Ogun State Security Network, also known as Amotekun, to ensure that Ogun State, returned to the era whereby the monthly Police Bulletings used to rate Ogun as a major assignment a Government is provision of security of the people.
Oba Gbadebo also noted that Ogun State used to have the lowest crime rate in Nigeria in the immediate past, adding that we had to keep the pace of being among the safest states in country.
Alake appreciated the initiative and commitment of the Governor of Ogun State to securing lives and property of the people of the State.
Speaking on behalf of Ogun State Market Men and Women, the Iyaloja of Egbaland, Chief (Mrs) Kemi Oloyede, commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for the creation of Amotekun, the Ogun State Security Network.
The Iyaloja of Egbaland said that the market men and women were very grateful to the Government for ensuring the security and safety of market people in Ogun State were in adding that they feel safer already with the inauguration of Amotekun.
In his own speech, Commissioner of Police, Awolowo Ajogun, pledged that the Nigeria Police would fully cooperate with Ogun State Amotekun.
Delivering his speech, Prof. Wole Soyinka, the doyen of Amotekun, said Dapo Abiodun had finally done what he wanted him to do for some time now.
Soyika also commended the uniqueness and dynamism of the Amotekun, adding that he was full of joy that such great outfit had come to exist in Ogun State.
Soyinka called on the Police and other security agencies not to see Amotekun as rivals and not to be too jealous of their positions.
Soyinka also warned the Amotekun nor existing security forces to start misbehaving like some corrupt security officers.
Prof. Soyinka warned the Amotekun corps members that if they misbehaved, he would invoke Ogun, the God of Iron, to strike such bad Amotekun dead, adding that even before Ogun stiles them down, they government would have already personally dealt with them.
The Chairman of PCRC, Venerable Popoola, commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for his initiave and pledged full cooperation.
He further charged the Amotekun Corps to respect the fundamental rights of the citizens and uphold professionalisms.
Prof Soyinka also urged the Government to invest monetarily in the outfit and said that some official representatives would be watching them and ensure that they do not trespass.
The initiator of Voluntary Road Safety Corps to stop carnage on our roads in the 80s, further pointed out some of the Amotekun Corps roles was to gather information as well as help the military and other existing security agencies take decisive action and to set an example of transparency and just governance, that would gain the confidence and approval of the people .
The Commander of the Amotekun Corps in Ogun State, Commander David Akinremi, in his vote of thanks, assured that the outfit would ensure smooth collaboration and operate in synergy with the existing security agencies as well as smooth operations throughout the state.
Government officials present at the Amotekun inauguration in Ogun State included the Deputy Governor, Engr Noimot Salako; the Secretary to the State Governor, Engr Tokunbo Talabi; the Chief of Staff, Hon. Schuaib Salisu; the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Afolabi Afuape, CP Edward Awolowo, Commissioner for Police, Ogun State and many others.
Many government leaders and important personalities were at the inauguration of the Amotekun Corps.
They included former State Deputy Governor, Segun Adesegun, Senator Akin Odunsi, the Chairman Odeda Local Government Caretaker Committee, the Dagburewe representing the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, as well as representatives of the Akatigbo Remo Oba Ajayi and Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, the Olu of Ilaro.
Egba High Chiefs present at the occasion included the Osi, Chief Bode Mustapha; the Bada and Chairman of SUBEB, Dr Femi Majekodunmi; the Onimoero, Chief Tokunbo Odebunmi; the Aare Baaroyin, Chief Layi Labode.
